How to Clip in Hair Extensions

If you didn’t know already I am obsessed with hair extensions. For almost 2 years I have been an avid wearer of hair extensions and will literally never leave the house without them clipped in. Today I wanted to share my quick steps on how to clip in hair extensions and help you achieve beautiful long locks.

Hair extensions should blend in with your natural hair so you can’t tell where the extension starts and your hair stops. Many websites and shops operate a colour match system so it should be relatively easy to find your shade.
There are different types of extensions. Synthetic hair extensions are plastic and should NOT have heat applied to them- this will ruin the hair extension. Hair extensions created with human hair can have heat applied to them and can be styled to your desired taste.
Before you starting clipping in your extensions, ensure that your hair and the extensions both have the same appearance, ie wavy, curly or straight. If you have synthetic extensions, you will need to use a curling or flat iron to style your hair to match the extensions. If you have hair extensions made of human hair, you can create any style you want. Be sure to use a heat protectant to minimise heat damage.
Using your finger or a comb, divide your hair into two sections. Draw a horizontal line from your right to your left temple, sectioning off the top part of your hair and securing it with a hair clip. If your hair is really thin, gently tease the lower half of your hair. This will ensure the extensions stay in place.
Open the clips of your extensions and align with the horizontal part you have made. Gently push down to snap the clips in place. Depending on your hair extensions, some may come in smaller multiple pieces, whereas others come in one large piece. If you are using multiple clip-ons, attach them one by one, ensuring they are evenly placed all over your head. This can be achieved by sectioning different parts of your hair and clipping in the extension as described earlier. Just ensure there is enough hair at the top to cover and disguise the weft.
Finally, release the top section of your hair. Gently tousle and brush through your hair to ensure the extensions are all blended. Hopefully these quick tips will help you in achieving long luscious mermaid hair! Until next time beauties,
